Environmental awareness and a sense of responsibility towards the environment is increasing in Russia every year. This applies to both ordinary citizens and government officials. An important merit in this is the activity of environmental organizations and the educational work of environmental scientists. But the example of the European Union, which has banned the use of plastic consumables since 2021, should not be ignored either.
Dmitry Kobylkin, who is the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology, made a statement that his department was going to ban the sale of disposable plastic tableware in Russia. Of course, the ban is planned to be introduced in stages, gradually replacing plastic items with their biodegradable counterparts. The initiative immediately found support among large retail chains that agreed to make their product range more environmentally friendly.
It is also worth noting that in April of this year one of the deputies of the State Duma proposed to completely abandon plastic bags by 2025.
