Glioblastoma multiforme, or a brain tumor, is one of the most terrible diseases that modern medicine is not yet able to cope with. As a rule, people with this diagnosis live for 1-2 years. Nevertheless, research in this area is constantly being conducted, and from time to time the scientific community makes discoveries that bring humanity closer to victory over this dangerous disease.
Just recently, it became known about a joint study of Russian and Swedish scientists. They learned to recognize specific proteins in a tumor that are responsible for the reproduction of cancer cells. In the arsenal of oncologists there are many ways to destroy them, such as chemotherapy, as well as a direct effect on DNA. However, healthy cells are often affected by these treatments. A new method that offers targeted destruction of these proteins will not only be able to quickly stop a progressive disease, but also avoid damage to healthy cells, because this is the main organ of the human body – the brain.
However, it is still premature to talk about the clinical implementation of the method. This will be possible only after he acquits himself during the next round of experiments.
